The man, 29, explained his rationale for not going to his sister’s March nuptials in aposton Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum. Although he loves his sister, 27, he doesn’t feel comfortable attending her wedding because his wife, 30, “isn’t welcome.”
“It’s supposed to be a joyous occasion. However, there’s some serious family drama that’s making things complicated,” he wrote.
From the start of their relationship, the man’s family has “never really approved of” his wife.
Their “strained relationship” is especially apparent in group settings, as the man’s family and wife always seem to find themselves in a fight.

“Recently, my parents went a step further and openly criticized my wife during a family gathering, blaming her for driving a wedge between me and them,” the poster explained. “This led to a huge argument, and I defended my wife, which only escalated the situation. My sister was present and didn’t intervene or support us, which hurt even more.”
Now, the man’s wife “feels extremely uncomfortable attending” her sister-in-law’s upcoming wedding. He doesn’t “blame her,” considering “she’s been treated poorly for years, and this latest incident was the last straw.”
Wanting “to support” his wife, the man has decided that he won’t go too.
“I told my sister that if my wife isn’t welcome, I won’t attend the wedding either,” he said. “She’s upset and claims that I’m being unreasonable and ruining her big day.”
He added: “I feel like my loyalty should lie with my wife, especially given the circumstances.”
“Honestly, we probably don’t have the full story,” one user commented. “A lot of the time, people don’t see how bad their spouses are for them.”

Redditors also pointed out that like his sister, the man appears to be doing nothing to stop his family’s mistreatment of his wife.
“You should have put a stop to this years ago,” another individual agreed.
