John Legendis about to make hiscoaching debutonThe Voice, but before his first day on the job the music star got some helpful advice from wifeChrissy Teigen.
“John, hurry up. You’re gonna be late for your first day onThe Voice,” Teigen tells her husband inToday’ssneak peekat Monday’s episode of the NBC singing competition show, which is kicking off its 16th season.
As the EGOT-winning singer, 40, makes his way down the stairs, Teigen, 33, hands him a brown paper bag lunch with his name written on it before walking him through a collection of items she compiled on his behalf so he would be able to fit in with fellow coachesBlake Shelton,Kelly ClarksonandAdam Levine.

“This is a book of country sayings so you know what Blake is saying, I have your button so you can practice on the bus, ear plugs because Kelly talks a lot,” she shares, before holding up a sheet of temporary tattoos, which she promises will help him “look cool.”
“I thought I was cool,” Legend interjects.
“Not to Adam,” his wife replies, packing all of the items in a backpack.
Although the rest of the judges immediately exit the bright yellow school bus upon arriving at the studio, Legend is the last to depart and takes a moment to look around at his surroundings.
And before the end of the clip, the singer gets one last encouraging word from the bus driver, who turns out to beThe Voicehost andTodayco-hostCarson Daly.
“Hey John, you got this,” Daly shares.
Despite the fact that this is Legend’s first time as a full-time coach on the NBC series, Clarkson and the veteran coaches haveexpressed their concernsabout the acclaimed singer joining their ranks.
“I’ve never been more terrified to be on this show with a coach than John Legend,” Clarkson, 36, said in another promo shared exclusively with PEOPLE earlier this month, before later adding, “He’s everyone’s threat, they don’t know it yet. He’s the threat.”
Levine, 39, agreed, “John is a threat. I mean, John has like 4,000 awards and he’s incredibly talented and very charming.”
As Shelton, 42, puts it though, “John has got a target on his back,” Shelton added, before pointing out that he still may have the leg-up on his new competition.
“But you know what he doesn’t have?” Shelton continued. “SixVoicetrophies.”
Despite Shelton’s confidence, Levine makes it clear: “We’re scared, John. That’s it. I’m scared, alright?”In the end, Legend isn’t fazed.
“I’m just an ordinary person, as they say,” he quipped, which is a play on his 2004 hit “Ordinary People.”
The Voicereturns for season 16 on Feb. 25 on NBC.
