There are many , many thing to recommend Steve Jobs : his brilliance . His commitment to excellence . His marketing understanding . And apparently , among a whole swath of chief operating officer , the fact that he could be a colossal jerk . But not so tight !
The Atlantictakes a lookat Jobs and “ asshole logical system , ” a fussy form of correlation / causation confusion that leads some direction case to think that because Jobs often brought his employee to tear , they should as well . It ’s aproblem exacerbatedby the popularity of Walter Isaacson ’s recent Jobs life :
With the death and canonisation of Steve Jobs and the egression of the Jobs life story as a variety of hallowed text for manager , the ranks of bosses who see Bad Steve ’s nastier traits as something to imitate is liable to swell . It ’s unlikely the book will make tyrant out of thoughtful , fair - minded middle managers . It ’s far more probable that it will turn bosses who are already assholes into even bigger assholes , grow the temperature of the worst actor so that they become that most combustible of workplace figures , the flame arsehole .

But , of course , Jobs could afford to be an motherfucker because he was all of those other wondrous thing , not the other way around . So think back that , middle managers of the world : unless you ’ve stimulate enough understanding , creativity , and drive that mass will take on your behavior on any footing ( and trust me , you do n’t ) , it might not suffer to meet it nice .
