rumour has it , everyone in Hollywood has tried to refashion or ( even better ) make a sequel to the 1984 scifi cult classic The Last Starfighter . But , so far , everyone has fail . And this kinky lilliputian Twitter exchange kind of excuse why .
Earlier this workweek , a wonderful “ modern ” poke forThe Last Starfighter hit the internet , causing everyone online to clamor about the movie ’s greatness ( because it is great ) . Screenwriter Gary Whitta ( of the Star Wars film mentioned to begin with today ) , Slashfilm ’s Peter Sciretta , and Seth Rogen all got into an interesting telephone exchange about who has endeavor to get the right to this undertaking .
@garywhitta@mbotti@mscriptshadow I remember get word Rogen tried to get it go for years . No one can make it happen .

@slashfilm@garywhitta@mbotti@mscriptshadow Spielberg himself told me he could n’t get the rights after I told him how long I ’d tried .
— Seth Rogen ( @Sethrogen)November 23 , 2014

As hearsay would have it , the picture show ’s original writer , Jonathan R. Betuel , possess the right to the picture ( or at least to a remake or a sequel in name ) and does n’t want it remade . And while we dead respect his right not to sell his work again , The Last Starfighter is just so ripe for a remaking it kills us ! Maybe one day he ’ll alter his judgement with the right person behind it . But if you ca n’t say yes to Spielberg , who can you say yes to ?
