The original trilogy is not double-dyed . We old people like topretend it is , but it is n’t . The dialog , especially in the first movie , isterrible . The performances in the first motion-picture show are also terrible . Luke is awhiner . Obi - Wan Kenobi is kind of a tool . There ’s the whole Luke - Leiaweirdness . There are the Ewoks ( although if you compare Chewbacca to Jar Jaragain I will cut you ) . The three movies have issues .
But the prequels have those issues , and then some . Thereason A New Hope has such performance and dialogue problems is because it waswritten and engineer by George Lucas on his own , while in ESB and RotJ he hadcollaborators for both screenwriting and the directing gig . But Lucas wrote anddirected all three of the prequels , so they all had these flaw . Plus , there isnothing in the original trilogy that comes closely to the misery of Anakin’sattempt to Latinian language Padme , or his dire “ I detest sand ” fustian .
And while Luke and Anakin are both whiners , Luke grows outof it by RotJ , while Anakin journeying goes from insane child who think a clearlyhuman young woman might be an saint to a glowering complainer to an even more sullen brat . It ’s not a very enchanting character discharge , and it does not compare to Luke ’s .
And yes , I hat the childishness of the primitive teddybears who managed to defeat a Galactic imperium in Return of the Jedi , but atleast they did some real fighting and had some battle to have the best . Jar Jar might have been hunky-dory if he had serve theplot in some way of life , or been genuinely funny , but he was neither .

I wanted to see more ofthis galaxy , I need desperately to learn about the Jedi , I want to have it away thebackstory that led to the momentous events of ANH , ESB and RotJ. But then theprequels came , and took us mighty back to Tatooine and shoehorn in as manycharacters we already screw as potential ; the Jedi are assholes who illegalize loveand ca n’t see the braggart scourge in the galaxy even when he ’s sitting 20 feetaway ; and then Lucas did n’t even bother to rewatch the first three Star Warsmovies to make trusted the continuity describe up .
There are other problem ; the prequels ’ want of a strongcentral villain like Darth Vader , the stress on evil political maneuvering overa scrappy band of sub taste to make unnecessary the wandflower , and the inherent problemsof prequels and trying to separate a fib whose confines are pre - existing .
