It was a bold move for showrunner Scott M. Gimple to make the first one-half of season six into a single sidereal day , following a bunch of different characters both at Rick ’s doomed Zombie Fun Run and back at Alexandria , which suffered its first major flak . I ’d say it ’s been mostly successful , but “ Always Accountable ” is the first instalment that made me nervous for TWD to get the group back together and get on with it .
Part of it is , of row , that this is episode six of the mathematical group being split up , following all the characters as they each have their own special Very Bad Days , and it ’s lose its novelty . A self-aggrandizing part of it is that this installment focuses Daryl , Sasha and Abraham , and while yes , everyone know Daryl , it ’s hard to get too excited about an sequence half - devoted to the show ’s most self-destructive character and its formerly most suicidal character .
Anyways , the episode begins when Daryl , Sasha and Abraham have finally led the zombie herd the deem - secure 20 miles away , and then immediately accelerate off to return to Alexandria . However , they almost immediately drive into an ambush of armed jerks ; Daryl take a nasty spill on his bike , and Sasha and Abraham are forced to leave him behind . Obviously , a bare group of armed gunmen is n’t an insuperable problem for Daryl , who turn tail with his wheel into what looks like a severely burn dowery of timber full of skeletons and mostly melted zombi .
As he ’s walk his bike through this charred timberland ( so the railway locomotive stochasticity does n’t give away his lieu ) he encounter two young women and a immature gentleman’s gentleman , the latter of whom knocks him out and consume him prisoner . This ternion is running from some unnamed other grouping , who they trust Daryl to be one of . There ’s lots of “ We should never have trusted you people ! ” and “ Their rules were batshit!”–type charge flying around , and Daryl is as confused as we are . Eventually we project out that the older two are taking the untried girl somewhere in hopes of reunify her with someone named Patty , and that they ’re very worried this group is work to come after them . I know this is all very wispy , but this is how TWD has choose to demonstrate it . I mean , we never even get two of the characters names . )
This is , of path , where thing start out to go severely for our new friend . They haul Daryl to where Patty was staying — some form of fuel plant life — and happen it cower zombies , meaning Patty is undoubtedly a toast . Daryl uses this deplorable moment to run after grab a duffel bag hold in his crossbow ; once he ’s dependable , he gets himself liberal from his ropes , opens the traveling bag and sees a cooler punctuate “ insulin”—the youngest female child , Tina , has diabetes . So Daryl , being one of the good guys of the zombie apocalypse , returns it to them … right as the III ’s former chemical group tracks them down . Daryl helps the three hide further back in the Mrs. Henry Wood , even managing to lure one of their pursuers to take the air past a pinned zombie , get bite , and force his pals to snub off his limb . At this spot , these guys make up one’s mind enough is enough , and maneuver back .
It is when their violent pursuers leave that things take a turn for the sorry . See , they ’re the 1 who set the forest on fire ( I ’m completely unclear what blend in down , which was either still advisedly wispy or means I ’m a dummy . Cast your votes below ! All I know is that the point of the fire was to defeat a cluster of living dead , which was apparently successful . However … ) As they wander though it , they come across a combust - out husk of a tent , where two boys that Tina used to babysit has once stay in . The deuce-ace had heard the boys had gone northward before they place the fire … except there are two little corpses , extend in the glass - like , melted credit card of the tent tarpaulin , there on the ground . They killed these children inadvertently , and Tina is so devastated that she breaks down sob by their cocoon corpses , which is of class more than enough to waken the zombie kid up . They burst out of their crunchy confect shell and corrode Tina , and Daryl and the others are forced to take care of them all .
construe that these are basically practiced kids — they search after their friend , who need insulin , which in the human beings of The Walking Dead qualifies them for sainthood — Daryl asks them the question that Aaron originally ask the group to see if they were worth of come to Alexandria : How many go-cart have you killed , and how many multitude ? The youthful mankind has the right answer : bunch and none , respectively , and Daryl invites them to join Alexandria , a place of base hit and air conditioning ! And after he recovers his bike and begins lead them home , he hears the man ’s gun pecker .
The two no longer mean he ’s part of their original group , and maybe they even think he ’s a good guy for aid them out . But upon find out the bike , the two take their chances with the devil they know — they hold Daryl up , take his bike and his crossbow , and drive off , back to the mathematical group they escaped from , hop-skip the bike and crossbow with be enough to make up for what they “ took ” by escaping . ( This group of people seems to be all about engage / using only what you ’ve realise , but I ’m sure we ’ll see more of them later . ) The young man and cleaning lady leave only a “ We ’re sorry ” behind them . “ You will be , ” muttering Daryl .
Suffice to say his first recruitment for Alexandria has not move well . On the positive side , he almost instantly finds a fuel tanker that still work . assume there ’s actually some fuel in there , this could be quite the asset for the Alexandrians .
As for Sasha and Abraham , their half basically boils down to Abraham taking anserine endangerment out of anger and survivor ’s guilt , and Sasha , just recently having gone through the accurate same affair , telling him to knock it off . I wish I could tell you for sure that Sasha manage to get through to Abe , that she engineers an emotional resurrection for her colleague radical fellow member , but I ’m pretty sure the thing that really root on Abraham up is when he find an abandoned military truck with a rocket rocket launcher and ammo in it ( all this scene was missing was some kind of “ world power - up ! ” sound effect when Abe grab the catapult ) . He also finds some fresh cigars , and when he yield to the building he ’s holed up in with Sasha , he explains that he ’s suddenly agnize that while he ’s always eff he was going to die , it only just now dawned on his that he ’s actually going to be living a while first . It sounds like a simple accuracy — possibly almost cardinal — but if you ’ve experience depression you know what a monumental , hefty change this can be . To seem at the time to come and not just see a fight you are doomed to lose sooner or later on .
unluckily , none of this is conveyed specially well by Abraham or this episode . The emotions seem real , but they do n’t connect because Abraham has been one of The Walking Dead ’s least - developed character , and watching him have a screaming match with a trapped , stake zombi who used to be a soldier ( not a subtle optic metaphor , but effectual ) does n’t really justify his emotional transformation . So when Abraham returns and tells Sasha he ’s feeling well and desire to get in her knickers , it ’s fall off as more creepy to me than a man with a new letting on life .
In terms of setting up future storylines and conflicts , “ Always Accountable ” gets an A+ . It introduces an entirely unexampled group of survivors that are definitely not the Wolves but definitely have some topic going on , and it also gives our mathematical group of survivor a few key assets that will very likely amount into gambol before the time of year finish ( you do not give a character like Abraham a goddamned arugula launcher if you ’re not also going to give him something to give the axe it at ) .
But that means near none of this episode pay off now , and after Morgan ’s stemma tale and the Alexandria post - Wolf attack retrieval , it ’s get aggravating . It ’s been three full weeks since we ’ve receive movement on the Wolves , the other automaton that did n’t make it through Rick ’s Zombie Fun Run and , most of all , the secret of what the hell happened — or what did n’t fall out — to Glenn .
On the plus side , I suppose we ’ve dawdled about all the dawdle we can fall back here , folks . Next calendar week character reference will have to start coming together again and things will begin being resolved ( or at least address ) . Unless we ’re get down a full episode of Enid ’s origin story , in which character she good have a goddamned rocket catapult , too .
Assorted rumination :
• Daryl seemed weirdly dumb this installment . Somehow after turn tail the ambush he manages to fall down proper lucre to a zombie — an incapacitated one , but still . He lets the dumb - dumbs gets the drop on him not once but twice . More astoundingly , there ’s the scene where a zombie is approaching and he ca n’t get his crossbow out of a bag . Daryl . You ’ve done this a million times . Get a rock and roll or joystick . Run a few invertebrate foot aside , buy yourself some time . This is not hard , Daryl .
• I was half - thinking the show might explicate this by explaining he get a concussion after falling off his motorcycle , but no . That may be canon in my top dog , though .
• So if the instalment basically boil down to Team Rick suffer one crossbow and motorcycle , but gaining a rocket launcher … I got ta think they ’ve come out ahead , right ? Daryl can come up another motorcycle .
