In the depths of the ocean off the northwest Australian coast consist huge , mysterious ecosystems . Until recently , they were completely undocumented by scientists . A team of investigator change that in mid - April , though , after they boarded an oceanic inquiry watercraft recognise as the R / V Falkor . Equipped with sophisticated robotic engineering , the gravy holder and its crew set out on an 18 - sidereal day expedition to explore the uncharted deepness . The team returned last week with loads of data to canvas and a treasure trove of photos of these previously out of the blue wonders . Here ’s some of what they launch .
