Some Roman Catholic bishops in Italy have called for Catholics to give up engineering , notablytext messagingand Twitter , for Lent . potential sacrifices they also considered include “ all fun ” and “ thing people wish . ”
These bishops apparently issued a blanket suggestion against all engineering , include iPods , Facebook , television , text messaging , and Twitter . While I see the urge to cast out the latter , the bishops stated that they hoped a prohibition on text messaging would “ draw attention to the difference in Congo , which it says is fuel by a battle over mine that supplying minerals used to make cellular phone . ” That ’s sort of reasonable and at the same fourth dimension also totally unreasonable , in that nobody is conk out to make that connection unless their phone are autograph with “ MADE WITH THE rakehell OF CONGOLESE MINERS ” on the front .
The Pope , apparently , is still out thereYouTubing , which kind of takes the sting out of the bishops ’ tidings . Is anybody out there giving up any sort of engineering for lent ? And if not , may I suggest Twitter ? [ LA Times ]
