Prior to its late July waiver , Barbie had a lot of hoopla behind it . It was n’t just that it became a plastic film event thanks to its uneven coupling with Oppenheimer , it was consistently ( and loudly ) commercialize and look unlike any othersummer blockbusterwithin the last several age . family have been going to see this thing in droves , and have mostly liked it . Its achiever has n’t come without some controversy , though : earlier in the week , the movie garnered criticism in Japan for being too associated with Oppenheimer , to the distributor point thatWB ’s Japan divisionpublicly call in out its American counterpart for have in on the Barbenheimer memes .
By twelvemonth ’s end , it seems likely the movie will be a swelled part of award time of year ( or at least part of the award - season discussion ) .
