Alan Bean , the fourth of just 12 people to take the air on the moon and one of the first Americans to drop an extended period living on a space station , fail Saturday at Houston Methodist Hospital . He was 86 .

A trial airplane pilot in the US Navy , Bean was one of just 14 trainee choose by NASA for its third category of astronauts . He was assign as the lunar mental faculty pilot program for Apollo 12 , the 2nd NASA delegation to the moon ’s open , in November 1969 .
